Use this helpful guide to schedule a meeting with your elected representatives:
-
Meet your legislator in his or her home district, rather than in Washington, D.C. or your state capitol because:
-
Call legislator's office
-
Identify yourself as a constituent
-
Explain the nature of your concerns
-
Try to arrange a brief meeting with the legislator
-
Expect one of three outcomes:
-
The legislator's calendar is full: Ask for availability in the near future
-
The legislator cannot meet with you the vote on your issue: Ask to meet with the staff person who is handling/most familiar with it
-
A meeting time is arranged: Confirm the meeting (date, time, location and topic for discussion) via written communication with the scheduler
